Restaurant Review: Khorisa, Hadapsar, Pune

The place has been on my bucket list since quite long now after it came up in Pune, the primary reason being the Assamese & Bengali cuisine on offer at the place. Also I had heard good reviews from foodie friends regarding the food served over here. Finally managed to hop into this place one fine afternoon for lunch with colleagues.

Nice ambiance given to the place. The Bengali and Assamese based folk music, primarily by Papon – Angaraag Mahanta,  in the background synchronizes well to augment the feel of the place. Being a regular listener of songs by Papon, who happens to be one of my favorite singers since some time now, made the playlist a bonus 🙂

Starters:

Betki (Fish) Fry : Nice crispy and not-at-all oily preparation served. The batter thickness used was perfect not to hamper the taste of perfectly prepared fish. I am not a fish expert, hence cannot comment on what fish was used, but a good starter to have nevertheless. Betki is a sheephead fish, but not sure whether the same was used. Goes really well with the mustard sauce.

Maas Morola Bhoja : Another Fish starter that used small Fishes cirspy-fried with onions and masala, a touch oily but not too much. Looked and tasted splendid. A must try .

Hara Alu Bhaji : A Potato based starter. Resembled typical home made dry Aloo fry subji, but peculiar used of Bengali preparation method gave it a very good texture and taste.

Main Course:

MassTenga Bilhai Diya : An Assamese preparation of Fish that uses of dominant tomato based preparation for the gravy. People with primitive spice based inclination might feel the preparation to be devoid of spices. But that’s hot Assamese/Bengali cuisine is suppose to be. Although devoid of spices but the tomato based preparation was very wonderfully done and goes well with the rice.

Koraishutir Kochuri : Peanut based Kochuri (Kachori), another preparation from Bong book. Kachori’s , rather Puri’s, were very good. But preparation was a little inconsistent as some Kachori’s were oily and one was overcooked in oil.

Assamese Veg Thali : One of the colleagues, pure-veggie, opted for the Thali.  Looked nice and filling, can’t comment on the taste.

Overall a great place to enjoy some really good Assamese & Bengali based cuisine.  But be mentally prepared that it going to be spice-less affair.

Definitely looking forward to visit the place some more times to taste some more stuff.
