Festival : Gusto d’Italia – Taste of Italy
Restaurant Name : Eighty Eight, Hyatt Pune, Nagar Road, Kalyani Nagar, Pune
Date of Visit: 7th April 2017
An exclusive #FoodProwl (http://www.foodprowl.com/) food tasting event 🙂
Eighty Eight @ Hyatt has recently launched Gusto d’Italia (Taste of Italy), an Italian cuisine based set menu, from 5th – 17th May 2017. The FoodProwl team was invited for a tasting event for the food spread on offer under the ongoing fest.
I must accept the fact that, before visiting Eight Eight, I was expecting loads of Pasta, Pizza, Risotto and of course cheese as well, for the evening palette. I was really surprised, yet glad as well, to see the menu devoid of Pasta as well as Pizza 🙂 Kudos to chef Sarika Kamble for that 🙂
A mocktail prepared from Strawberry and Basil, served upfront was quite refreshing.
Cheese Platter with Crudites and Nuts : The cheese platter consisted of Edam, Emmental, Provolone and smoked Scamorza cheeses served with walnuts and crudites. The smoked Scamorza was the best of the lot.
Antipasti Platter : An amazing spread of cured meats namely, Bacon, Pepperoni, Prosciutto and Salami, are on the offer. Well they say, Antipasto is the traditional first course of a formal Italian meal, but with such a spread it can easily be the last as well 😉 An absolute delight of a platter for meat lovers.
Caramelised Onion and Fig Bread : I am already a Fig lover, add to that caramel flavor, absolute delight for the taste buds.
Pea Soup with Chicken and Cheese Quenelle : Forget the chicken, I cannot believe writing it being a hard-core non-veggie myself, the Pea Soup in itself was simply awesome. So delicious …
Caprese Salad : Absolute magic created for the taste buds by the chef Sarika using simple ingredients namely, Plum Tomatoes and Basil with Mozzarella cheese hint of olive oil.
Parma Ham & Melon : Yet another superb salad using Ham and Melon with mild balsamic hint.
Baked Figs with Goat Cheese and Nuts : Nothing really much to elaborate about it. Simply yummy if you are a fig lover.
Honey Rosemary Glazed Lamb Chops – The undoubted star preparation of the evening by chef Sarika. Meat was cooked bang perfectly right upto the bone with consistent texture through the thickness. Still unable to get over it, one of those preparation to die for…
Pan Seared Sea Bass, Parmesan Potato and Tomato Caper Anchovy Sauce : The presentation itself was fantabulous. The Sea Bass was nicely baked and so were the potatoes.
Parsley Buttered Prawns, Crab Cake & Garlic Sauce : An absolute treat for sea-food lovers. The Prawns had lovely butter flavor and the deep fried Crab Cake’s were excellently done, crisp shell and soft inside.
Stuffed Chicken Breast, Wilted Spinach, Parmesan Potato : The chicken breast was a touch dry and bland as well, the later being a subjective choice. A little moist however could have been better. The shell again was pretty crisp.
Wild Mushroom, Brie Cheese Risotto : Another star of the evening. Risotto was perfectly done using creamy brie cheese, the only off thing being the Risotto not prepared using wine, courtesy the new highway liquor ban 🙁 Topped with Wild Mushroom, it was an absolute delicacy with balance flavors.
Spaghetti Bolognaise : Spaghetti topped with heart-pound buffalo meat, cooked deliciously with mild flavors, and use of parmesan cheese made it a very good serving. The flavors of the individual ingredients blended well with each other.
The dessert plate served consisted of Berry Cheese Cake and Panacotta, served with Ice-Cream. Both Berry Cheese Cake and Panacotta were excellently done, nothing really much to ask for after a sumptuous meal.
At the end-of-the-day, a festival representing wide cuisine of Italian Food, which otherwise ends on Pizzas , Noodles and may be if you are luck Risotto at the max. Hope Eighty Eight Hyatt and chef Sarika can have this festival, or rather even a regular Buffet or options in Ala-Carte, in the near future as well.
At last, special mention and thanks to Suraj Singh Jhala and Heena Grover Menon, of Karma PR for inviting the FoodProwl team for the food tasting event. Thanks to Kamal Deep Sharma (Director of Sales and Marketing @ Eighty Eight Hyatt) and Shruti Sengupta (Asst. Manager Marketing Communication) for inviting and hosting the FoodProwl team. Last but not-the-least, a wholehearted to the Chef Sarika Kamble for presenting a mouth savory and such an archaic Italian feast.
